[Fighting Style] Military CQB
« on: February 25, 2009, 11:31:23 am »
This is a draft I've just finished working on for a player who wanted a slightly more military-based fighting style for an ex-military character than some of the originals allow, it's essentially a mix of pistol, knife and unarmed moves designed for close quarters combat indoors or from stealth

Military CQB (4)

THNameMovesPRPayoff
3Silent TakedownStride + Power + Pistol Strike3Knockout
3Knife in the BackGrab + Press + Knife Strike4Bleed
4Duck and CoverRoll + Ready + Fire Pistol + Crouch2Additional Damage + 10
4Ground ZeroGrab + Press + Ready + Fire Pistol4Trip, Additional Damage + 10
4Shoulder TossWeapon Strike + Grab + Press + Toss6Trip, Bleed
4Trigger LossGrab + Press + Knife Strike + R Kick Strike6Dismember digit, Push 2
5Hallway SweepSidestep + Fire Pistol + Ready + Fire Pistol + Sidestep4Additional Damage + 20
5Human ShieldDash + Grab (I) + Spin + Ready + Fire Pistol (II)6Pin 1 (I), Additional Damage +5 (II)
6Down an ArmSidestep + Grab + Press + R Fist Strike + Ready + R Fist Strike8Disarm, Knockout, Disadvantage (physical) 2
6Silent KillerStride + Grab + Press + Power + Power + Weapon Strike10Death

There are a few notes to bear in mind:

1) Silent Takedown and Silent Killer are intended to be use when undetected by your target
2) Hallway Sweep is intended to be started when behind cover and brings the attacker back into cover at the end
3) Duck and Cover ends up (given appropriate terrain) with the target behind cover of appropriate height.

Assuming you would like feedback...

Generally i like the alternate GunFu and i like the idea of some moves having the prerequisit of suprise attack from behind and I think you should include knife in the back in this. It does have the feel of Special Forces training which is great!

I would give duck and cover a mental disadvantage 1 or a daze result as it appears to be a come out of cover, fire and duck back. I am not sure about the additional damage +10. However, this is similar to GunFu the Finger.

Conversly Ground Zero could do more damage with its point blank shot. (GunFu has a +30 on Up Close and Personal but you may want to go +20)

Shoulder toss needs to be knife strike and not weapon strike to get a bleed. Otherwise you can get a bleed from a pistol whip.

Hallway sweep is the only one that really jars with me. It is huge damage... you would need 4 successes on a aim move to equal it. in fact you could aim with your mental move and then hallway sweep and get an extra payout on both shots. I might suggest additional damage +10, push 1 and Daze because after being shot twice you are likely to be short on concentration for a moment.

You could make silent killer a little more effective by moving the strike forward and changing one or two of the powers into presses. That way even if you did not complete the sequence for the kill you may still do major hurt.

Yeah, yeah thanks, maybe I should have said that any feedback was welcome, hehe, thanks for the suggestions, I didn't really think of mental disadvantages mostly because when I was coming up with things I kind of assumed they meant a stun-like effect... but I suppose they can just as easily represent the sense of 'what the heck?' when you've popped out of cover, popped a cap in someone and ducked back before they can react. Thanks for the suggestions, and in light of them, here's the style with some changes made:

Military CQB (4)

THNameMovesPRPayoff
3Silent TakedownStride + Power + Pistol Strike3Knockout
3Knife in the BackGrab + Press + Knife Strike4Bleed
4Duck and CoverRoll + Ready + Fire Pistol + Crouch3Additional Damage + 5, Disadvantage (mental) 2
4Ground ZeroGrab + Press + Ready + Fire Pistol6Trip, Additional Damage + 20
4Shoulder TossKnife Strike + Grab + Press + Toss6Trip, Bleed
4Trigger LossGrab + Press + Knife Strike + R Kick Strike6Dismember digit, Push 2
5Hallway SweepSidestep + Fire Pistol + Ready + Fire Pistol + Sidestep8Additional Damage + 10, Push, Daze
5Human ShieldDash + Grab (I) + Spin + Ready + Fire Pistol (II)6Pin 1 (I), Additional Damage +5 (II)
6Down an ArmSidestep + Grab + Press + R Fist Strike + Ready + R Fist Strike8Disarm, Knockout, Disadvantage (physical) 2
6Silent KillerStride + Grab + Press + Weapon Strike + Press + Press10Death

This is still a WIP of course if people can think of any other suggestions, I can't help but think the PR for Hallway Sweep is a little high now though, I might get rid of the Additional Damage payoff altogether and stick with the push and the daze instead...
